Keep Calm and Bacon On

In honor of my last post... I'm guessing "put bacon on" means put bacon on the skillet. I don't know... it doesn't entirely make sense, but it involved bacon, so whatev.

Keep Calm and Carry On

This short film explains the origins of the adage "Keep Calm and Carry On," which I didn't even know had history behind it. Apparently it started as part of a propaganda campaign in Britain during WWII meant to keep the people from panicking in times of desperation. One of the original posters, which was found in a British book shop, looks identical to the posters that are reproduced today. It's hard for me to imagine what I consider such a modern looking, simplistic design hanging up around 1940s wartime England. But I guess a 1940s wartime British person would be more than disbelieving that a simple poster would make such resonance in 2012.

suPmon Wes Anderson Prints

Oh, the things you can find on Etsy. suPmon has a collection of prints that pay tribute to the genius of Wes Anderson films, and I must say I can't really find a reason to not hang a picture of Steve Zissou and Richie Tenenbaum on my wall. Prints of The Mighty Ducks movie trilogy are the only thing I can think of that I would be even more proud to display in my home.

Candy Chang's "Before I Die" Project

Candy Chang is an artist and urban planner in New Orleans. She turned this abandoned house on the corner of Marigny and Burgundy into a giant chalkboard where people could write what they would like to do before they die. Ingenious transformation of a neglected space. Not sure if the installation is still up, but if it is, I might just go check it out!

Crayola Glow Chalk

Yes, it might be sad that I was watching a Scooby-Doo movie on Cartoon Network. And it may be even sadder that the only reason I stopped to watch it was because the actress for Velma was also a character in the Disney Movie Lemonade Mouth. BUT WHATEVER, the point is that while watching this cool Scooby movie, I saw a commercial for Crayola glow in the dark chalk! Yes, this is a real and wonderful thing.



Can you imagine all the cool things you could draw on your driveway!? When I was younger, me and my friend would spend hours on her driveway just covering it in random pictures. So fun. Here's the commercial I saw:

Awful Drawings by Mathieu Barriere

Found some pretty cool images soaked in dry humor. Just my type! And the more childlike the drawing, the better. Days of realism are long gone, we must only use crayons and draw with our non-dominant hand.

Shoes Ain't Like Dey Used ta Be

Found this guy's blog, Kobi Levi, who designs some really awesome and creative shoes. I mean, I would never wear those banana peel shoes because 1. they're a type of clog and 2. in all practical senses, they're hideous. But I still think they're cool. Besides, I'm not Lady Gaga, I don't go around wrapped up in art --it's a little presumptuous to think you deserve to walk around in artwork, but hey, who am I to criticize Lady Gag's [misspelling intentional] loud and obnoxious style that people seem to mistake for originality? Well, that's neither here nor there, obviously. My point is that the shoes are beautifully crafted.

Well Traveled

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to pack up everything you own just like that and travel whenever and wherever you wanted?


Of course, if the only thing you own was a chair, then this suitcase is really convenient.

Graffiti Artists Get It Right

With midterm elections coming up in November, I am bombarded with words and images of initiatives, taxes, tea parties, etc etc etc. God, all people do is complain about tax cuts and marijuana, when really they just need to chill and realize the world is ending in 2012 anyways after the Chinese take over the world. By the way, I finally looked up what the freaking "Tea Party" is, and it's not, contrary to popular belief, a collection of young girls and their toys enjoying a hot saucer full of boiled herb water. It's actually middle-aged upper-middle class republican white men that probably used to be hippies because apparently they love protesting.

If I were a graffiti artist, I'd probably just be a homeless person spray painting images of meat all over city's buildings. And that's probably why I'm not a graffiti artist.
