Spank Rock feat. Santigold - "Car Song"

It gets real weird at the end and I officially get uncomfortable with the appearance of naked girls covering each other in bright blue paint, but then again I began watching with the full knowledge that Santigold is involved in this song so therefore I really should've known. Weird that she looks so normal in the video since I constantly imagine her throwing up gold glitter. As for Spank Rock, I am a new fan and pretty surprised I never listened before considering they are hip hop + electro, aka right up my alley.

Sleigh Bells, Reign of Terror Album

Sleigh Bells is borderline mainstream (Passion Pit style) with their Spin Magazine cover. Soon, other people that aren't liberal arts majors at ABC University will be asking you if you've ever heard of this new band. It will probably be the same person that asked you a few months ago if you have ever heard of "dubstep". Regardless, I think I might like their upcoming album, Reign of Terror, better than their debut.

So, this song is not new, but it's new to me. The only reason I discovered it was because I was watching an old rerun of SNL with Emma Stone (obsessed, as you know) and there was a skit involving this song. Really funny skit actually, if you want to watch it in a ghetto recording. After googling a fair amount, I discovered the song was by Camille, and called Ta Douleur, which means "your pain/grief" in English. Weird, because the song sounds so upbeat, but I have yet to look up the lyrics so in all honesty have no idea what is being said. But it sounds cool.

First of all, sorry about the erratic posting. I know I usually have something new almost everyday, but I'm working as a full-time nanny right now in New York and finding time to blog when I'm not completely exhausted has been difficult. It kinds of seems like le week-end is now a purely Harry Potter/Emma Watson blog... but that's kind of the theme of my life in general so it's not entirely inappro-- sorry, I'm talking about Harry Potter again.

So, here is an artist that is great for the train ride into the city... relaxing, serene, a tinge soulful. Basically right up my music tastes alley.

FINALLY! Justice has a new single!!!! I am obsessed with Justice, I just love them. It helps that they are two fabulous French men decked out in leather and jewelry and crazy hair. But it's been a while, like 4 years apparently, which I didn't notice because the Justice, Phoenix and Taylor Swift Fearless albums are all rotating in my itunes on repeat. One of these is not like the other... but anyway, here it is!

First Aid Kit

This is possibly one of my favorite music discoveries in a while. First Aid Kit is two Swedish sisters who got fame a few years ago from their Fleet Foxes "Tiger Mountain Peasant Song" cover. Since then, they've released lots of music and preformed, and just recently were approached by Jack White to record in his studio. That Jack White Production is released today, and it is awesome. Did a little investigatin' and found some free download action at the First Aid Kit website- there are 10 free live tracks, the Fleet Foxes cover included.

They remind me of Florence and the Machine, which is probably why I like them so much.

The Dimes... they are absolutely perfect for a solitary car ride around town with the windows down. I am anticipating that the effects of the music + car ride (also dependent on weather, time of day, and pre-existing mood) will be a nice content/hopeful feeling in the pit of my stomach, or a good ol' cathartic cry.

There is a free download of their demo, "Oh Louise" at thedimes.com, which is actually very good. It's on the sidebar, so don't give up if you don't see it in the first 5 seconds of browsing the website, because I know how impatient people can be.

Arcade Fire Will Not Go Away

So I have a few things to say. Arcade Fire's Suburbs came out in like August, and they're still all over my news radar. I mean... I guess the album is okay, but who's dick are they sucking? Also, they have released a video for their single Suburbs, (finally, that was my fave track off the damn thang) and it is 1. filmed outside of Austin and 2. directed by Spike Jonze. CAN I JUST SAY THEY WOULD BE THE ONES? It's so typical Spike Jonze, so much dramz and artistic sadness, although I have to be honest, I don't really know what's going on in the end. o wait, does that mean I'm not deep enough? :(

LISTEN: Keepaway - Kompetitor EP

Really good listening. I feel like Brooklyn has a factory that creates hundreds of synth-pop bands. The instrumental at the end of "Sideways Smile" was just right... but the rap cameo by Das Racist in "Zoo Too" was maybe a little weird.

Arcade Fire's new album dropped two days ago, and this one of the tracks that embodies the theme of the album--"The Suburbs". The album is inspired by the transience of memories from sucky cookie cutter suburbia. Acrade Fire's songs always sound epic but intimate... like I wanna go on a massive adventure but only if I'm wrapped up in a goose down comforter and make the adventure come to me! I mean, isn't that how their music makes everyone feel? Right?
